Geographically Challenged

Yesterday, we were watching the U.S. Open tennis tournament. As some of you may know, we were under the threat of Hurricane Hanna marching up the east coast of the U.S. and dumping a lot of rain on us.

For some reason, it was raining here and not in New York City where the tournament is being played. Odd because they are south of us and should have experienced the rain first.

Anyway, it was raining outside here but it wasn't raining in NYC or on television where play continued.

Mom: How come they keep playing in the rain?

Me: Well it's raining here but it isn't raining there.

Mom: Where are they?

Me: Down in New York City.

Mom: Oh.

I think it registered on some level because she seemed satisfied by my answer but I'm still not sure she understood how it could be raining here and not there on television.

Ah... I remember those days. My wife took care of her mother for 8 yrs (dimentia) and she also had 'Geographically Challenged' moments.

Thanks for sharing your moments.

Oh my goodness. I came across your blog and I think it is fantastic. To write about the humorous things that your mom does is so refreshing. My dad has Alzheimer's and I am blogging about him. He has had a fabulous career in Hollywood and doesn't remember a darn thing. He said he use to pick Idaho spuds for a living. I know exactly what you are going through with your mom. The jewelry thing cracks me up because I know what that is like, only except my dads fixation is on his finger nail clippers that he pulls out of his pants pocket everyday and tells me all about it. I try to act like it's new to me. UUGGHH!! Thanks for sharing and making me laugh too. I needed that. I would love to add your link to my blog.
