Noticing Memories

As I predicted, mom quickly forgot our road trip.

On Saturday when my brother was here, I recounted the whole trip to him while we were in the sitting room yakking. It's a good way to include her in the conversation and a chance for me to try and reinforce what happened. I try to think of all the unusual things we did, like having the big sundae, and hope to hit on something that sticks out. She did remember the ice cream but that was it.

But the news isn't all bad.

The next day she said she wanted to ask me a question. She wanted to know about the trip we took because she couldn't remember any of it. For me, I noticed not that she didn't remember the trip...that was expected. I was impressed that she remembered our conversation from the day before and remembered that she didn't remember.

There have been glimmers of this since starting the Namenda. In a couple of weeks, she has her regular doctor's appointment and that's when I'm going to inquire about Aricept.
