When In Doubt, Pull The Plug

Don't panic! The post title is meant to be provocative, but not indicative of anything bad!

I wrote a few posts back that Mom has issues with the remote control for the television. I went to sleep last night and she was awake in front of the tv. The remote control was on the tray table in front of her.

This morning, I found the remote and portable phone on the kitchen counter. And the television was off.

I went into the den and hit the power button. Nothing. Pressed it harder. Again, nothing. I thought I'd move closer and directly in front of the set. Still nothing.

Well, Mother must not have had any success turning the television off with the remote because she'd unplugged it. Mission accomplished. I did note that she understood that it ran on electricity and unplugging it would turn it off.

My name is Kathy and I am 39. I am the full time caregiver to my Dad who has Alzheimer's and lives with me.

In addition to Dad, I have a full time job, 3 dogs, my love of 12 years David and his 14 year old daughter. I get overwhelmed a lot but try to find the humor if I can.

I am writing a blog which shows the lighter side of caring for someone with dementia.
