Saturday was one storm front after another. All afternoon and evening, the Emergency Broadcast System got a workout on the television as the tones were sounded and the robotic woman with the tin voice alerted us that storms producing quarter size hail were forming and to take cover. She did inform me of something that I didn't know. Lightning strikes can occur 15 miles from the center of the storm, so if you can hear thunder, you are in danger of being struck!
At 8:30 in the evening, another storm was rolling in. Cat #2 is afraid of the loud noises so she was hiding in the bathroom. It was dark out and Cat #1 had gone outside after the last storm passed through. I got up from the computer and walked through the house looking for the cat. The lightning and thunder was almost on top of us. Well, I can't find mother dear either. I rushed through the house calling for her, going from room to room, looking on the floor to see if she had fainted or collapsed since she wasn't answering.
She wasn't in the house. She out picking leaves up off the front lawn...in the dark...with lightning coming down all around us. I was afraid to go out in the yard to get her! There she is, picking at those damn leaves. I'll yelled at her to get in the house. She'd take five steps, then have to stop and pick up a few more leaves.
It's so hard not to get angry and I have to just keep reminding myself that she can't help herself.

The more you write about your mother, it reminds me of when me and my mom took care of my old man, who had a brain tumor, and exhibited the same type of behavior your mom. There are times, that if you didn't laugh out loud at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation, you would cry.
There were times when he would ask - "who the hell is that guy living in the back bedroom?" Me, of course.
