Awareness And Appreciation

When we came out of the doctor's office on Monday afternoon, we hopped in the car and headed home.

At the first stop sign, we saw a man across the street. He looked homeless, with a vacant look on his face, and he was standing in the road about three feet from the curb. The area is residential and he didn't have any real chance of getting hit — there is barely any traffic and what cars there are go quite slow.

Mom and I both spotted him at the same time.

Me: Poor guy. You know what they say, "There but for the grace of God go I."

Mom: Yah. What would I ever do if I didn't have you?

my sentiments exactly - on some level she really really knows. It may be fleeting what she knows, but she knows. I gotta say as well, given the childhood dynamics you related below, how remarkable it is that you have transcended those dynamics to the degree you have and ARE there for her,in these difficult years of her need. It really says something about the depth of your character and your abiding love. Again , make sure you get that needed respite !!

What, indeed, would she do?

Be good to yourself. You deserve it.
