Things That Go Munch In The Night

I've talked a lot about the deer we have in the area. It brings Mom much joy watching them. This dear is a young (born last summer?) deer that has spent two hours during the afternoon over the past two days foraging for something to eat in the back field. She has been alone...until last night. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. with a hankering for something chocolate. I got up in the dark and made my way to the kitchen for some devil's food cake with marshmallow frosting.

Well little miss lonesome was back with a bunch of her friends. In the photo, she's in the field behind our house. Last night, she and her cohorts were in the yard. She was the smallest, and there were three other larger females with her. They stopped and stared at me. Kinda creepy what happens during the night that we usually never know about!

I'm sure your getting all kinds of unsolicited advice--but, have you tried Ensure? Or Pedialite? End stagers often eat less than they need but will still drink until they leave us. Hang in there, you're a blessing. I can't imagine where your Mother would be were it not for you...

Thanks for the tip, shopgirl!

We have Ensure in the fridge. I hadn't considered that as a means of boosting electrolytes. It's actually for me 'cause when I get stressed my tummy gets in a knot and I can't eat.

I will say that mom still eats like a horse. She's never hungry, but man can she pack it away when it's time to eat. This is a typical conversation every night!

Me: Are you ready to eat?

Mom: I'm not too hungry, just fix me a little bit.

I bring her a full plate.

Mom: Oh, my, I never eat all that.

Me: I know, but eat what you can.

After I collect her empty plate...

Me: You must have been hungrier than you thought.

Mom: I know. It really tasted good!
